A 10-year-old boy is accused of shooting his father in the back after the man scuffled with the child’s mother early this morning at their home on Detroit’s west side, police told us this morning.

The boy told police that he grabbed a 9mm gun in hopes of stopping the fight but didn’t mean to pull the trigger at 3:30 a.m. at the house on Buena Vista between Linwood and Dexter.
The father, in his mid-30s, was in critical condition this morning.

Police released the child into the custody of a relative after interviewing him.
