A shootout in the Cass Corridor caused two schools to be locked down this afternoon, and one man was shot in the back and taken to the hospital with nonfatal injuries, police said.
Detroit police are still looking for one of the shooters after a man on a bike was shot at least once on Peterboro near Second, which is where the city’s former Chinatown is located. It’s unclear whether the injured man was one of the gunmen.
Police Sgt. Michael Woody said the shooting stems from a confrontation between at least two people a few days ago.

Witnesses said they heard three or four gunshots, prompting the lockdown of Cass Tech University and the Midtown Montessori, which is a block from the shooting. A man with a long black coat was seen fleeing the area.
The man who was shot was riding a bike when the shootout occurred. His bike was still at the scene when police left.

Police were seen marking Peterboro where bullet casings were found.
Peterboro and Second is one of the most dangerous areas of the Cass Corridor and was the site of at least three shootings in the past two years. It’s a popular spot for drug-dealing, and heroin needles are often seen scattered about.
It’s the same block where a restaurant is opening this year, and where a tattoo parlor and beer retailer recently opened.
