A man trying to flee a knife-wielding friend was stabbed in front of Detroit police Tuesday afternoon before an officer shot the assailant in the front lawn of the department’s 2nd Precinct.
The victim drove to the precinct and ran toward police as the driver of a gray Toyota gave chase with a knife. The victim stumbled.
“Drop your weapon, police!” an officer yelled at the assailant, who ignored the commands and stabbed his friend, said Deputy Police Chief Renee Hall.

An officer shot the assailant near the thigh and handcuffed him as they awaited paramedics.
Both men were conscious when paramedics arrived.
“The victim was lucky this happened outside of a precinct,” Hall said. “The situation could have been a lot worse.”
Police said the men are in their 30s.
