Detroit police baffled after thieves break into cop cars outside of precinct

You know something isn’t right when thieves start breaking into squad cars outside of a police precinct.

That’s what happened late Monday night in the parking lot of the Sixth Precinct on the city’s west side, where thieves cut through a chain-link fence and shattered the windows of four police cars.

Police believe the perpetrators were looking for guns because they ignored the expensive radio equipment and everything else from the cars at 11450 Warwick. Luckily, police said, weapons aren’t left inside unoccupied squad cars, so the thieves left empty-handed.

Pry marks were found on the trunks and doors.

Police are still trying to determine who would so brazenly bust out windows outside of a precinct.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage.
