WXYZ-TV Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday after he was seriously injured in a fireworks accident while on a family vacation in Iowa City, Iowa.
Rexroth, a popular weather forecaster, lost his eye in the Friday night blast and will undergo surgery to begin the process of receiving a prosthetic eye, WXYZ reported Monday morning.
He’s expected to fully recover by September.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his family and they have our full support during this difficult time. As Dave recovers, we’ll provide updates on his progress – and we look forward to his return to Action News,” said Ed Fernandez, vice president and general manager of WXYZ.
Rexroth, who lives in Oakland County with his wife and three sons, has been chief meteorologist at WXYZ since August 2010.
Rexroth graduated from Luther College in Iowa before receiving a master’s degree in meteorology from the University of Chicago.
