The Kalamazoo man who blamed his deadly shooting spree on a possessed Uber app is suing the ride-sharing company for $10 million.
Jason Dalton, 45, who delivered more than 100 rides as an Uber driver, said in a handwritten lawsuit that the company “ripped me off, never paid me back wages or overtime. I busted my butt for them. They gave me no Christmas bonuses, I wasn’t invited to corporate parties, they made me work when I was sick and they didn’t let me spend time with my children. Uber treats drivers like crap,” the Battle Creek Enquirer reported.
Dalton was arrested on Feb. 21 after he shot six people and critically injured two others during a shooting spree that terrorized Kalamazoo residents. In between the shootings, he gave Uber rides.
Dalton told police that the Uber app on his cell phone “controlled his mind and body” and made “him act like a puppet.”
“The company is a hostile workplace environment,” according to the suit filed in U.S. Federal District Court for the Eastern District. “Uber discriminates against my mental health.

Dalton blamed Uber for his legal troubles.
“My life is ruined because of Uber,” the lawsuit states. “My wife is divorcing me because of Uber. I am seeking $10 million in punitive damages and Emotional distress. I have psychological distress because of Uber.”
Uber released a prepared statement: “It’s hard to know how to respond to someone who refuses to take responsibility for his own actions. Our hearts go out to victims’ families who have to live with the consequences of his terrible crimes.”
Dalton faces up to life in prison on six counts of open murder.
