Emergency crews pulled a body from a manhole cover early Thursday morning on the I-96 Service Drive on the west side.

Police are investigating whether the victim was trying to steal copper electrical wires in the exposed manhole near Pacific.

Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after midnight but were hindered because they had to wait for the city to cut off electricity.
