Detroit fire truck breaks down on way to two-story blaze

Sometimes the fire hydrants don’t work. Or paramedics don’t show up. Or not enough firefighters are on duty.

On Tuesday night on Detroit’sĀ east side, it was a ladder truck, #6, that broke down while a fire tore through a vacant, two-story house.

By the time another ladder truck arrived shortly after 10:30 p.m., the enormous wood house at Mack and Field was engulfed, flames jutting through the roof at Mack and Field.

About a half mile south on Mack, another smoke wafted from another fire.

The Motor City Muckraker will continue to examine the fire department’s ability to fight fires amidst deep budget cuts.
