Valerie Vande Panne, an award-winning journalist and former editor of High Times, has taken the helm at the revamped Metro Times.
The alternative newsweekly, which was purchased by Cleveland-based Euclid Media in December, named Vande Panne, a Michigan native, as editor-in-chief today.
Vande Panne’s work has appeared in Salon, the Boston Globe and Crain’s Detroit Business.

She’s perhaps best known for her advocacy of drug policy reform and even facilitated the first-ever global summit – “Saliendo de las Sombras” – on ending the drug war.
Vande Panne also has covered culture, the environment, extreme sports, and academia.

Under the previous ownership of Times-Shamrock, the free weekly lost readership and advertising revenue. But since Euclid Media Group took over, the Metro Times has roared back with hard-hitting investigative pieces and compelling stories. It also bolstered its online presence.
In February, Euclid hired investigative reporter Ryan Felton and plans to bring in more journalists.
