Bloodshed feared after Detroit rapper beat unconscious (video)

Most people don’t mess with popular Detroit rap group DoughBoyz CashOut.

They got money, some fame and a history of violence.

But that didn’t stop a large group of east-side rappers and friends from brutally beating DoughBoyz CashOut member HBK and about four others at Cobo Hall on Wednesday night. HBK was knocked out and his chain necklace stolen. He was kicked while unconscious.

DoughBoyz CashOut, which includes Payroll, Doughboy Quis and Doughboy Dre, are known for their raw tales of street life, money and making it big. They reached a new level of success earlier this year by signing a deal with Young Jeezy’s label, CTE World.

Wednesday’s attack triggered unusually candid social media comments about retaliation.

East-side rappers IceWear Vezzo and Green Guy Webbie took credit for the beating.

DoughBoyz CashOut earned a thuggish reputation after two videos surfaced of them beating up EMU college students and humiliating women at a hotel.

After banging my head against a wall of idiotic comments from the sheeple

    • Dust Buster

i will take a collection for your ticket. can you also encourage your like minded rappers, entertainers and thugs along with you?

      • Illa Blue

Sure, but then what will America have left? Corrupt government, flawed politics, and the worst sports teams the world has ever seen.

  • born and raised in Detroit

I only have one question. How many of you who say things need to change by any means necessary are ready to come to Detroit and stand up and start making changes by any means necessary?

    • bebow

I live in Detroit. The first thing that needs to change is our thinking. The violence and destruction taking place in the neighborhoods aren’t acceptable. The excuses have worn thin. It’s the responsibility of the elected and appointed to remove the criminal menace from the neighborhoods, and DO IT NOW. They clearly don’t want us to take matters into our own hands, so they’re it. That’s what they get paid to do, and we are the ones paying. So, they are under us, not the other way around. We don’t need to accept one more word from them suggesting we are part of the crime problem, when that’s nothing but a handy excuse for catastrophic performance failure. If the elected and appointed have time to do each other on the clock, and the nerve to expect a pension for it, then they have time and nerve enough to REMOVE THE CRIMINAL MENACE BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

  • Pliskin

Perhaps you people should consider the neighborhoods they grew up in. I assume you overlooked that entirely. Yeah, they say “nigga” a lot. Big deal. They’re all in their early 20’s and you can’t say you acted better when you were that age. Who are you to pass judgement anyway? You do know that 4 members of a Detroit rap group were attending a Floyd Mayweather event, approached by over 10 members of another Detroit rap group and then a fight ensued on part of the 10 member group? I mean, you people comment as if you knew the situation. I have an idea, how about instead of pretending to be an intelligent adult, you shut your ignorant mouth. How are you ignorant? Because you’re commenting on people whom you do not know and a situation in which you have no idea about. I happen to know the situation though and your unrealistic, simplistic, and uneducated opinion about life and the lives in Detroit is ridiculous. I would like to say you’re quite pathetic for each reply you typed on this page. This message is directed towards Beck, Bebow, Ted Urban, and Todd Priest.

    • Beck

Well since you actually wrote a decent response (and called me out) I will attempt to engage you in a thoughtful dialogue. Also, for the record as a young man in my 20s I don’t need to have a foul mouth to get my point across. This wasn’t really a point I was trying to make in earlier post, but it really shows a lack in their ability to communicate effectively as adults.

      Anyway…

First of all, I’m not singling out the 4 members or the 10 members of either group. It really shouldn’t matter. This type of behavior is not excusable regardless of who or how many were involved. What purpose did any of this serve other than boost “street cred”? When people like you shrug and say, “Oh they’re just young men and that’s what they do….” it permits more or the same and sometimes worse to occur. You can’t honestly sit there behind your computer screen and tell me that you don’t see this is a problem? You probably know some of these very people I’m talking about, but you’re absolutely gutless and don’t have the spine to do anything about it.

Second of all, what difference does it make what neighborhood they grew up in? As if that was some sort of validation of their behavior in the first place. So just because someone grew up at a particular cross street that excuses them to act like a thug? And you say that I am the ignorant one? Please attempt to use some logic in your future responses.

Maybe since you know so much about the situation you could enlighten us with a few more details. Not that it really matters because its all nonsense anyway…

      • Pliskin

You’re not singing out anybody? Okay, let me quote you really fast just to enlighten you on your own response ” These people have no place in a civilized society.” Firstly, don’t even start a sentence with “people like me”, because you know nothing about me. Some people got jumped. The originators of the violence were the people stomping on the face of the young man in green. This kind of fighting I do not condone. IF two people have to take things to a physical level, then so be it. One person will lose, then leave it at that. This is was a flat out mugging.

Addressing your second “point”, yes it does matter where one grows up and which street corner they walk on. Say one grows up in Birmingham, mid-upper class upbringings. No need to fight for anything except which coffee they get at Starbucks. In another location, someone’s father leaves the family, they are raised on well fare and food stamps because their single mother cannot support two kids and pay rent with the little to no opportunities in their area. Those kids grow up having to fight for everything because of their environment. This is how some of them turn out. So upbringing is a very large factor here, which, you seem to be ignoring which is quite one sided of you, to be honest. Now, question my logic again, but before you do, site your sources. You made yourself look foolish for not seeing both sides of a situation.

        • Beck

I did say that and it is a direct quote from my post, however I never said “people like this” as if I was speaking directly to you or making a generalized statement. So don’t take it so personally unless you were one of these “people”. I was simply addressing the behavior of those involved in this particular situation and others like it and I think that’s completely fair given the video evidence (3 videos in all). As far as taking things to a physical level, I agree altercations do happen from time to time, but this was taken to very extremes and is uncalled for. This may have been instigated by another group of young men, but the second video clearly shows these Doughboyz as perpetrators of the same type of physical brutality. You can’t really be saying to me that this wasn’t justifiable because the Doughboyz were the victims of a mugging/assault but yet another brawl where they were the responsible party is completely justifiable. If you can then I’d like to hear your argument defending them. Personally, I don’t think any of it is justified.

Responding to your second point, I understand and somewhat agree with what you’re saying. I am not an expert on the harsh realities of growing up in the hood, but it seems to me there is always a better way. You won’t find any argument from me that there is an injustice created by failures in the family structure, the education system or a lack of valuable opportunities for in inner city youth. It’s possible that many of these kids grew up under these same dire circumstances you described, but this can’t be justification for becoming a thug. Life is a struggle for everyone. Some have it easier than others but the fact of the matter is that you reap what you sow. Granted the resources are sometimes limited, but there are many ways to help these kids while they’re still young. There are scholarships, grants, mentorships, volunteer opportunities, internships and even military service just to name a few things that would provide some substance to their lives. At some point these opportunities might even translate into something truly valuable in their future. The truth is you can’t choose your parents or the circumstance you grew up in, but you do have the authority to choose your life. The only people coming out as being foolish are the ones who chose this lifestyle.

    • Dust Buster

all one needs to do is watch some of the videos linked in this article. all the explaining and rationalizing in the world cant excuse or justify this utter buffoonery. sorry but truth hurts

  • 313Shame

I heard of this incident from my Detroit family. One video was all I needed to see. Sick, sick, sick. After seeing the video and reading the comments my question to all including the journalist; where was law enforcement? This attacked occurred inside Cobo Hall; where was security? It’s possible a gang retaliation will spark from this incident; the entire thing has lawsuit spelled out in the video. Detroit may have financial problems, but crime and violence has been and continue to be a part of Detroit history. A crime ridden city elects a Mayor (Kilpatrick) known for strong personal ties with criminals to ruin a city already on it’s last leg. Detroit has a difficult struggle ahead. I read some of the comments from the Kollegekid followers and although they are not the majority; they are pretty close to it. Having said this; until those living in Detroit with their eyes closed stand up and fight “by any mean necessary” this story will only become the focus of national media portraying an already bleak city to total ruins. May the story be laid to rest or may the families be prepared to mourn the loss of many.

  • nitrodrip

There was a wonderful documentary on last week called ” African Americans: Many Rivers to cross”. I am afraid these young people find this history unimportant. They probably know three people in a movement that spanned 500 years that changed society and cultures across the globe. Kids know MLK, Rosa Parks and Frederick Douglass. I hold the parents responsible to teach the history if they do not get it in school. People of all ethnicity have forgotten personal accountability, respect and treating others as you would want to be treated. If there is a method to reach out and teach I am for it. You have a generation that is lost and they would be hard fought to recover and might possibly become a menace to society.

  • A Chami

Can you at least translate the tweets Steve?

  • Ted Urban

What is it with all this “nigga” crap? And maybe learn to speak English rather than the garbage that comes out of their mouths.

  • Erectus Maximus

These young men could have been important; they could have been a part of the solution; all they needed was a stable home, a father they saw leave for work every morning, and an education system that actually prepared them living in the REAL society of man, and not the fantasy, superficial world that the urbane Black society embraces.
If the media would only stop embracing the so-called “thug” lifestyle, these “kids” would have a more balanced view of how to really succeed in this life, without all the “apologists”.

    • Beck

Couldn’t agree more. I see far too much instability in these families and not enough emphasis on getting an education these days. How do we change this?

      • bebow

Intelligent policy helps people make better decisions.

  • Todd Priest

You worthless want to be gangsters.

  • Erectus Maximus

    • storm

Not the best scenario but we all know that is what’s going to end up happening and some innocent bystanders as well.

  • Kelley Girlw

    So ignorant. :-(

    • storm

      so right

  • Beck

WTF? As if the first video wasn’t bad enough I just watched the second video on this post, “Doughboyz Cashout fights EMU Students” and seriously? Are these young men raised to be animals? These people have no place in a civilized society.

On another note how is it that in the 1960s and 70s Motown signed such brilliant young black artists while holding such high professional expectation and this is what the culture has degenerated to? By signing these young men to a record deal isn’t this just a means of validating this type of behavior? It’s time for someone in the industry to step up and expect some accountability.

So many questions and so much wrong with this picture…

    • bebow

Watch the 3rd video. The females are just as nasty.

      • Beck

I did watch it, but I could barely wrap my brain around the profanity laced nonsense these idiots call english. Absolute and udder trash. It’s too bad we as a society can’t do more to curb this kind of human behavior.

        • bebow

We can curb proliferation of the criminal menace whenever we are ready to demand the government stop supporting it. Consider many, if not all, of the featured individuals are already parents. It’s time to establish firm boundaries and enforce them ruthlessly.

          • Beck

I wouldn’t necessarily put a stop to government support programs for those in need, but there is definitely a problem with this societal picture. Those likely to be “parents” should be teaching their kids right from wrong at an early age. These people obviously grew up without an ability to deal with anger and have not developed the appropriate coping skills to function in everyday life.

Maybe you’re right though. If the purse strings were tightened maybe they would stop reproducing…but I wouldn’t hold my breathe.

          • tammy tee

you say reproducing like the smelly dogs that keep pink ppl company but i say the news said 67% of americans gross 25,000 or less 18% make 50,000 a year pink ppls crimes are not violent but cruel crimes wage crimes pay a liveable wage and crime in detroit and every other inner city woulld cease over night cruel crimes remember these same young men you call animals can be on road crews repairing the city streets that they live and walk but no the pink patrol comes in the city to slopily save the day or pave the way lol fk the roads up and be back to make another big pay check fixing the mistakes purposely made or in the auto supply jobs cruel pink crimes first in the work place white supremecy rules the real laborers and drivers of car caponents parts are black women who are doing the labor the pink man forced her to do so the real lazy pink cowboy can hire only submissive gay black men to continue his crul pink crimes so remember white ppl commit crimes also i dont think a large group of black ppl are in the group of classifiing pedephiles to be a legal sickness but its pink men so crimes are crimes

          • Beck

Wow Tammy. Just wow. Not only was that the longest run on sentence I’ve ever intentionally read, but at no point did I actually follow the lazy stream of consciousness of your racist and misinformed diatribe. Be that as it may, I’m not here to play grammar police. Perhaps you should sit this one out while the adults are talking though…

          • bebow

There are jobs, Tammy, but individual effort (work) is required to get and keep them. No one decent will ever tolerate the behavior captured here on video. No one. Ever.

          • Dust Buster

lol beware of the large angry black female that thinks she is educated. what a load of drivel

          • Illa Blue

Also, beware the slightly more educated yet equally ignorant indignant white male. His prejudice and woe-is-me politics is just as subversive to a civilized society as that of inner city gang violence. An avid sleeper, he only wakes long enough to invoke blame on other elements of society, never acknowledging his own failures.

          • bebow

I am also not in favor of yanking the social safety net, but it’s possible to craft policy to reward functional behavior.

I highly doubt you made all that today and even if you did there’s a difference between having a little money and being wealthy. Here’s a hint, the latter wouldn’t have to flaunt it in an anonymous online forum because they’re so insecure….

You’re such a joke anyway so I guess it really doesn’t matter. You either won’t be living free long enough or living at all to enjoy whatever fortune you managed to stash away. I truly look forward to reading news of your indictment or obituary in the news while I enjoy my morning coffee.

          • Beck

No need for college when you only live for today. These deadbeats aren’t going anywhere in life and that’s exactly what they pass on to the next generation as well.

          • Oberyn_Martell

My statement was meant for now or in the future. If he chooses not to have kids then the point is moot. The much sadder indictment of the culture you defend is that it views saving for your kid’s future as a dreary existence.

          • Illa Blue

Not actually what I was suggesting. I was merely referring to the fact that your comment was aimed as if he was a parent, then proceeded to chastise him for neglecting his parental responsibility. The naivete of your patronizing comment is that not everyone has, or wants, a child or a family.

You can use it to buy shiny trinkets but nothing more substantial without the risk of bringing the roof down on your own head. Transitioning that loot into the real deal is very tricky business, isn’t it? You can’t trust anyone and lack the education necessary to pull it off on your own. You’re stuck. Unfree. That money rides you like a haint. Eventually, you’ll see. No one here envies you. Some of us feel a little sorry for you. Define “functional” please. I ask this because anyone can make a blanket statement of what’s natural, normal, and certainly “functional”. I’m sure somewhere on Earth at any given moment, someone is doing something you may call normal or functional, that someone else would find offensive and vile.

I actually thought you were brighter than what you’ve posted here. It appears I’ve given you too much credit, and must remind you that this nation is built on violence and bloodshed. Even now we are as mean and brutish as we always were. Your sophomoric psychobabble about “anger” and whatnot is nothing more than a reflection of American culture, now broadcast over the internet. It’s not new, and it’s not racially confined. It’s the country you call home.

Call it whatever you like, but that is the purpose of an open social forum. If you arrived to the conversation earlier I would have liked to challenge some of your points, but perhaps another time…
