In the past two years, thousands of sewer and manhole covers have been stolen, creating hazards for unsuspecting pedestrians, motorists and bicyclists. The cast iron lids fetch scofflaws between $10 and $25 at local scrap yards, police said.
Police said two men were taken into custody this morning after the body and casket were discovered in two different locations.
Thieves stole mausoleum doors, gates, stained glass windows, marble and other contents. About 12 mausoleum were ransacked.
