Michigan officials, including Gov. Rick Snyder, could face manslaughter charges if a state investigation determines “gross negligence” led to the deaths of Flint residents who were forced to rely on contaminated water.
Lt. Gov. Brian Calley voted against hate crime protections, emergency contraceptions for sexual assault victims and job training for the unemployed.
Voters may finally get a chance to recall Gov. Rick Snyder, who has come under fierce fire for his handling of the Flint water crisis.
The news comes on the same day the FBI confirmed it was investigating officials’ role in the Flint water crisis.
The investigation means officials who were involved in the water crisis could face criminal charges.
In the latest blow to children poisoned by elevated lead levels in Flint, the federal government has denied a request to extend WIC benefits.
Not even lead filters are enough to prevent thousands of Flint residents from being poisoned by elevated levels of lead, the EPA warned.
The state quietly supplied its workers in Flint with clean water in January 2015 – 10 months before warning residents that the water was dangerous.
In a separate development, a Republican-led Congressional hearing won’t include Snyder, even though he accepted blame for thousands of Flint residents being poisoned.
