Detroit firefighters find 5th murder victim in one month

Detroit firefighters found what is believed to be the fifth murder victim in a month early this morning after responding to a semi-truck fire on the southwest side of the city.

m. near Junction and McGraw streets. It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim had been shot, but shotgun casings were found by the truck.

On June 19, firefighters discovered a body wrapped in a blanket behind a house fire at 12458 Westphalia. The victim had been shot numerous times.

Shortly after midnight on May 27, firefighters found a body stuffed in the trunk of a burned-out car on the east side near the Davison and Chrysler freeway. A day later, firefighters hosed down a corpse near Linwood and the John C. Lodge on the west side.
Turns out, both victims had been shot and set on fire.

At 3:50 a.m. on June 3, firefighters found another body, this time inside an apartment building at 19201 Mound. The victim, 61-year-old Edward Jones, was found with trauma to the body that suggested he was beaten or stabbed. Investigators found traces of gasoline at the entrance of his apartment.

In January, firefighters found a deceased baby on the 19300 block of Keating. Firefighters also found a headless, badly burned body inside an abandoned school on Detroit’s west side in November.

But authorities believe many more people are killed during fires but their bodies are never found.
