Detroit-based Shinola, which manufactures bikes, watches and leather goods in the Motor City, plans to launch a line of pet accessories and open a dog park in Midtown next month.
The company plans to roll out the pet accessories and dog park at Cass and Canfield on June 20, the same day Shinola is opening a sister shop, Willy’s, in the same building that houses the flagship store on the 400 block of W. Canfield. The dog park is on the same block.
Willy’s will feature four American brands: Steven Alan, a New York clothing line; Filson, a Seattle-based outdoor goods manufacturer; Clare V, a Los Angeles-based handbags and accessories maker; and Mollusk, a San Francisco-based surf wear company.
The pet accessories are the latest addition to a growing list of Shinola products – $75 pencil pouches, $48 candles, $250 bike locks and $135 footballs.
Shinola will open a dog park next to the Knickerbocker Apartments on the edge of Wayne State University, where Shinola earlier erected one of its 13-foot-tall clocks.
Later in the evening, Shinola plans to hold a block party with other local shops, hoping to highlight Midtown as a shopping destination.
