Boy, 12, burglarizes bank in Southfield – and then busted

Police_Detroit

A 12-year-old boy rode his bike to a bank in Southfield at 3 a.m. today, smashed the glass front door and searched for his new fortune, police said.

But that plan ended abruptly when security for Bank of America on Greenfield Road spotted the young bandit on security camera and called police.

Shocked by the age of the boy, police drove him to the station and called his mother to pick him up until further investigation.

“A bicycle was observed at the front door and the glass was broken,” the Southfield Police Department said in a statement. “Officers made entry into the building and located a juvenile suspect. The suspect was found to have property from the bank upon his person. He was subsequently arrested.”

The bank declined to comment on the burglary but said the glass window has been repaired and services were uninterrupted this morning.

We’ll update the story as more details become available.
