Photos: Detroit cops arrest 6 protesters during Black Lives Matter rally

Detroit police arrested six protesters at a Black Lives Matter rally on Wednesday evening after they chained themselves to a police precinct in New Center.

Protesters gathered to mark the anniversary of the 2010 fatal shooting of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones, who was killed by a cop in a raid at her family’s east side home.

Charges against the officer, Joseph Weekley, were dropped after two mistrials, and he recently was named co-chair of a police Committee on Race and Equality, an insult to the protesters and family of Aiyana.

Police made the arrests around 8 p.m., two hours after the protest started.

The protesters were freed from jail several hours later. They still face potential charges.

The rally was peaceful, and no one resisted arrest. The rally ended shortly after the arrests.

The protest was organized by the Detroit chapters of Black Lives Matter and BYP100.
