Detroit firefighters are raising money in hopes of finding the killer of David Madrigal, a beloved fireman who was found bludgeoned to death in his west-side home on Monday.

The money will be used as a reward to anyone who shares information leading to the arrest of the killer. The fund, which has a $10,000 goal, has raised $2,745 so far. Click here to donate.

The 59-year-old firefighter was months from retiring when an unknown person attacked him and stole some of his belongings. During his 25-year career with the Fire Department, he earned a reputation as a loyal firefighter who frequently volunteered to help the homeless and struggling families. He was a proud grandfather, a family man and a motorcycle enthusiast, firefighters said.

“He was a super good guy,” said Mike Nevin, president of the Detroit Fire Fighters Association.

Police are looking for tips. They believe Madrigal may have been dead a day before his son found him.

Madrigal is the third Detroit firefighter to die in a month.
