Update: Police said on Tuesday that further investigation revealed David Madrigral wasn’t shot, but instead died of blunt force trauma.
A beloved Detroit firefighter and proud grandfather was found dead in his west-side home Monday evening before his apparent killer robbed him and stole his SUV.
Relatives went to check on David Madrigal, 59, at his house on the 7600 block of Vaughan and found him dead on a chair from a blunt force trauma to the head.
Madrigal’s black 2015 Ford Explorer was stolen, and items from his home appeared to be taken after at least one room in his house was ransacked.
Investigators believe Madrigal was dead for at least a day before he was discovered by family.

No weapons were recovered from the scene.
Madrigal, a motorcycle enthusiast, frequent volunteer and 25-year veteran of the department, was assigned to Engine 33 on the west side.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them at (313) 596-5200 or Crime Stoppers at (800) SPEAK-UP.
Madrigal is the third Detroit firefighter to die in the past month.
