‘Another F—ing Bar,’ former punk hangout is demolished in Red Wings district

The red brick building at the corner of Park Avenue and Henry Street was easy to miss, inspiring the name of its last incarnation – Another Fucking Bar.

Without any fanfare, crews demolished the Cass Corridor building this week to help make way for the Red Wings arena and entertainment district.

But a decade ago, the bar was bustling with people, music and cheap drinks. Formerly known as the “2500 Club,” the bar was the city’s “most dedicated punk rock venue,” The Detroit News wrote in 2006.

“This is a died-in-the-wool punk rock bar that’s thoroughly committed to punk ethics and hardcore ideals,” The Detroit News wrote.

In 2009, the bar was sold and became “Another Fucking Bar” with a marquee that read: “Just what Detroit needs.”

Beer was served from urinals, and food came in a dog bowl.

The building has been vacant for a few years and is in the shadow of the new arena.

Demolition began after Detroit City Council signed off on the arena plans Tuesday, which include the demolition of the historic Hotel Park Avenue.
