The Grosse Pointe Park businessman, who has a sketchy past, is under investigation by the FBI.

Agents spent another day in HAZMAT suits today, searching for bone fragments and human remains at his company, International Biological, near the Coleman A. Young International Airport.

His business brokers body parts and sells them to a variety of medical technology companies.

Rathburn was dismissed as a morgue attendant at the University of Michigan in 1990 following an investigation into the illegal sale of body parts, according to the book, “Body Brokers: Inside America’s Underground Trade in Human Remains.”

That’s not to say Rathburn wasn’t skilled. While at the University of Michigan Medical School, he received two patents for designs on anatomical preparation stations in the 1980s, government records show. His published a highly regarded journal article about new embalming and autopsy stations.

The FBI declined to comment on the case or provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
