Detroit firefighters found three bodies inside a burning car on Detroit’s east side shortly after 4 p.m. today.
Firefighters were responding to a call about a car that hit a tree and caught on fire at Charlevoix and Lakewood. Dispatchers told firefighters that “civilians may be trapped inside.”
When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, they found three bodies.

A witness said the car was speeding and exploded on impact. The witness estimated the car was traveling 90 mph.
The car fire burned the side of a vacant house.
Police and EMS arrived about five minutes later. Arson investigators also were en route.
