On this day in 2009, former Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick emerges from the Wayne County Jail a free man after serving a 99-day sentence for obstruction of justice for shoving a deputy who was trying to serve a subpoena in the text-message case.
Kilpatrick resigned as mayor in September 2008.
