Book-Cadillac catches fire in downtown Detroit, forcing evacuation of 100s

imageA kitchen fire broke out today at the Westin Book-Cadillac Hotel in downtown Detroit, forcing the evacuation of hundreds and sending plumes of smoke into the sky.

The 3:15 p.m. grease fire started at the hotel’s restaurant, Roast, and spread to the duct work of the ground-floor restaurant.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames to prevent serious damage to the hotel.

Westin resident Caitlin Theisen provided these photos from inside the building, which still smells of smoke.

She was grateful the fire alarms alerted residents.
