Kevin Washington was across the street when neighbors saw a pickup truck pull up to his house and throw what appeared to be an explosive object through the front window.
His sons, who were home alone, died, their lifeless bodies carried out about six minutes later by firefighters.Washington, 36, told arson investigators that he was only away for about 10 minutes, but neighbors on Detroit’s west side said he was gone for longer.
Washington was arrested on outstanding warrants unrelated to the Friday fire, police said today. The warrant involves home invasion and traffic violations.
Police are still looking for two black men in their 30s, one of whom was seen throwing an explosive device from inside a Ford F-150.
“I’m gonna find out who did it,” he told me as firefighters extinguished the blaze. “That much is for sure.”
The firebombing occurred on the 6800 block of Prairie Street, which is near 6 Mile and Livernois. Another house on the street was firebombed recently, neighbors said.
