Mysterious ‘blaze’ breaks out at Guardian Building – or did it?

A mysterious fire appeared to break out on top of the Guardian Building on Sunday night, but no one called 911, dispatch records show.

The video, posted on Facebook, shows what look like large flames atop the art deco skyscraper on Griswold shortly after 7 p.m. But there’s no confirmation that there was a fire.

To help solve this mystery, we reviewed dispatch records and found that firefighters were called to the Griswold Building – about four blocks away –  at 7:15 p.m. but firefighters found nothing suspicious.

No one called in a fire at the Guardian Building, which is operated by Wayne County.

The man who recorded the fire has since taken down the video from Facebook.

County officials said they were not aware of a fire.
