Grosse Pointe Park officials are calling for the Michigan State Police to investigate the police department after the Motor City Muckraker revealed that officers were capturing humiliating videos of black men who were told to dance and sing.
City spokesman Greg Bowens told us today that the allegations are serious and should be investigated by an outside agency. Grosse Pointe Park police launched their own internal investigation.
Dozens of protesters are expected to gather outside the city’s police department on Jefferson today and demand an outside probe and the immediate removal of all officers involved with the video scandal.
Since we broke the story Friday, people nationwide expressed outrage that police officers in the 21st century would demean black men on video.
