Headless, handless body found in stolen car in Detroit River

waterA recreational diver taking a plunge into the Detroit River made a gruesome discovery Thursday.

A badly decomposed body with no head or hands was inside the backseat of a black Mercury Sable that had been reported stolen a decade ago. Authorities believe the car and body likely rested on the murky floor near Waterfront Park in Wyandotte since then. The car’s license plate tags expired in 2004.

Wyondotte Police Inspector James Pouliot said the body still needs to be positively identified, but authorities believe it belongs 30-year-old Thomas Lange, who went missing in 2003.
