Over the last several weeks, I have made several calls to the Michigan Tax Association regarding the potential violations of the Headlee Amendment within the so called “consent agreement” between the state and the city of Detroit. I have gotten zero response from this “advocacy” organization. Leon Drolet, the chair of the MTA, a former Macomb County commissioner, knows me well and has been ducking me as if I was some kind of process server.I even have posted a direct request to discuss the issue on Leon Drolet’s Facebook page, with no success. I have also posted a request for a discussion on the merits of my assertion of a violation of the Headlee Amendment with the “consent agreement” to Drolet’s MTA email address. If I got a response, you did.
The MTA boldly mentions the Headlee Amendment in the “About Us” section of its website. What will be revealed soon is whether the MTA truly advocates for all Michigan taxpayers, as they claim on that same web page. Maybe the MTA is politically, geographically, and racially predisposed to not weigh in on matters south of 8-Mile Road. They seem to be clearly running away from what should be a core MTA issue. Whatever the reason, their silence is noticeably deafening.
