A large fire tore through two vacant houses on Detroit’s east side Tuesday evening, spewing plumes of black smokeĀ that could be seen for more than 12 miles.
Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to a neighboring home.
Neighbors said scrappers recently tore apart the abandoned housesĀ at Dubois and Medbury for copper pipes and anything else of value.
Firefighters said the fire was suspicious and under investigation.
One civilian was injured and treated at the scene.
This is part of our ongoing series to document every fire in Detroit this year.
