Driver killed in attempted carjacking near downtown over weekend

A 31-year-old man was killed after he sped away from would-be carjackers at a gas station on Gratiot near St. Aubin around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Detroit Police said the man was driving a Mustang when the carjackers tried to steal his car at gunpoint. When he sped away, the suspects shot him, causing the Mustang to crash, according to WXYZ.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Sunday afternoon, police have not released any information, including the descriptions of the suspects.
