The following is a list of every destructive fire in a house, apartment, business or other building in Detroit in January 2015. This does not include small kitchen fires or nondestructive appliance mishaps. Car, garage and rekindles are not included.

This information was collected by Motor City Muckraker using dispatch reports, run sheets, interviews, 911 calls and onsite inspections as part of our year-long project, Detroit Is Burning. Post-fire photos of every burned structure will be posted at Motor City Mapping. To look at the photos, type the address of the property into Motor City Mapping, an interactive technology created by Detroit-based Loveland Technologies. You’ll find a host of insightful information, including ownership and tax status.

  • Seems to be a lot of electrical related fires. It would be interesting to make note of the illegal hookups. It just might help deter people from doing it.
