Detroit firefighters find third burned body in one week

Fire Department

It has been a gruesome week for Detroit firefighters.

Shortly after midnight on May 27, firefighters found a body stuffed in the trunk of a burned-out car on the east side near the Davison and Chrysler freeway. On Wednesday night, firefighters hosed down a corpse near Linwood and the John C. Lodge on the west side.

Turns out, both victims had been shot and set on fire.

At 3:50 a.m. this morning, firefighters found another body, this time inside an apartment building at 19201 Mound.

“We have a deceased guy here,” a firefighter called into dispatch. “We don’t know if there is any foul play involved.”

Police said there was no evidence of foul play before the fire. The Fire Department’s arson unit is investigating to determine whether the fire was intentionally set.
