Kwame from jail: ‘I am not guilty of any of these charges’

kilpatrick, kwameThe following is a letter written recently by former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who is incarcerated while he awaits sentencing on felony corruption charges.

“I have never been associated, nor participated in any way, form or fashion, with a criminal enterprise of any sort. I have never extorted anyone. I have need accepted a bribe.

There were more than 80 witnesses that testified at my trial. Not a single one gave testimony that I did any of these things. I am not guilty of any of these charges. The trial was not about these stated criminal counts, but something far more sinister, and most people know it but don’t care.

My foundational right to a fair trial was trampled upon, and I must continue to fight for my freedom as well as the justice that was promised to me by the blood, sweat, tears and even lives of all American freedom fighters.”
