Arson investigators puzzled after attempted firebombing at Detroit church this morning

ChurchArson investigators are trying to determine why someone tried to burn down a church near the University of Detroit-Mercy shortly before 6 a.m. today.

Fire authorities said it appears someone chucked a molotov cocktail at a tall, wooden door on the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions on the 17000 block of Quincy on the city’s west side.

The church is popular, neighbors said.

The fire was one of four that broke out between 5 and 6 this morning in Detroit.

With fewer firefighters, trucks and equipment, the city was calling fire companies from across the city to help with the breakout.

We will update as more news becomes available.
