Bed bugs found in Detroit ambulance

Ambulance

Bed buds were reported on DDOT buses a few weeks ago. In Warren, a library was closed after an infestation. And now the blood-sucking insects were found on a Detroit ambulance.

City officials said Wednesday that an ambulance was pulled out of service and disinfected after bed bugs were found in the rig. Medic 4’s quarters at 16825 Trinity on the west side also was evacuated so crews could fumigate the area.

A sign on the quarter’s door warned: “Don’t Enter, Bed Bugs, Toxic.”

Beside the obvious ick factor, the infestation meant another ambulance was sidelined at a time when the city can’t keep up with medical emergencies. Last week, a boy died after paramedics took too long to respond.

Health officials said Detroit is one of the nation’s most bed bug-ridden cities. They’re most commonly found in apartment buildings, hotels and homeless shelters.
