Update: Police called off the search at 8:42 p.m.

Police and federal authorities are scouring Detroit’s east side for a man who said he’s injured and wearing Russian military fatigues inside an abandoned building near Jefferson Avenue close to the border of Grosse Pointe Park.

Border Patrol added seven officers to the search shortly after 2 p.m. as the search widened from Alter to St. Clair along Jefferson.

The mysterious man called 911 this morning and said he was kidnapped, stabbed and then discarded in a vacant area near Freud and Jefferson.

The man called from a satellite phone and said he was a Russian military doctor and lieutenant in the Russian Army. He also spoke in a heavy Russian accent.

Police said they are reaching out to Russian officials to determine if one of their officers was vacationing in the U.S.

When the man called 911, he said he was badly injured but didn’t know where he was.

Police narrowed down the search from his description, but have since lost track of him.
