Video: Warren police restrain woman to hack off weaves; chief admonishes officers

Warren police officers restrained a recently arrested woman and chopped off her hair weave in an action that the police chief said crossed the line.

The video shows police restraining the woman because she didn’t want jail officials to cut out her weaves, which were sewn into a braid on the back of her head.

Police Commissioner Jere Green said it’s a policy to remove clipped-in long hair extensions so they can’t be used as a weapon or to commit suicide. But a weave is different, Green told WXYZ.

“There’s a real simple thing: it’s called right and wrong. And to me this is something that I won’t tolerate, I don’t think the citizens of Warren will tolerate it,” said Green.
