Green Party candidate Jill Stein conceded Saturday afternoon in Detroit that she has lost her battle to recount nearly 4.8 million votes cast in the 2016 presidential race in Michigan.

“We have exhausted what we can do in here in Michigan,” Stein said during a rally outside Cobo Hall.

“I think we have to roll over and see what our fight looks like on the ground. We have to fight for reforms.”

A federal judge last week ordered the recount to stop, agreeing with a state appellate court that the challenge had no legal basis because no evidence of voter fraud had been discovered during the first three days of the recount, which was expected to continue through next week.

In Detroit, 59% of the precincts couldn’t be recounted because of mismatched voting tallies.

“This was a valiant, principled fight,” Stein said, adding that the next step was “fighting for election reforms.”

Stein said she plans to visit Wisconsin on Sunday to rally for support of a recount in that state.
