A Canton police officer has resigned after calling black people “monkeys” on Facebook.

Officer Kenneth Kleszcz, who used to work for the Detroit Police Department, posted “go home monkeys” while watching a live video feed of an anti-Trump rally. He was suspended with pay on Nov. 11.

Canton police said they were in the middle of an internal investigation when Kleszcz voluntarily resigned.

“The Canton Public Safety Department holds its employees to the highest of standards and this type of behavior is not representative of the beliefs or core values of this organization,” the department said in a release.

Kleszcz’s Facebook rant was among 25 racist incidents that Motor City Muckraker has documented in Michigan since Trump’s election victory earlier this month.

A Shelby Township man and Donald Trump supporter who posted a picture of President Obama hanging from a noose on Facebook was fired soon after we revealed the image and threatening language in a story.

WDIV reporter Lauren Podell resigned this month after using the n-word in front of a co-worker.

Motor City Muckraker is documenting racial incidents after the election of Trump, who routinely maligned groups of people and used hateful rhetoric.
