Detroit police officer shot outside gas station on east side

A Detroit police officer was shot on the east side Monday night and rushed to St. Johns Hospital.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. At 11:34 p.m., police said the sergeant was shot in the shoulder and is in surgery. He was in temporary serious condition.

Police said the suspect is in custody, and a gun has been recovered.

The shooting occurred outside a Sunoco gas station at the corner of Hayes and 7 Mile after a foot chase.
