Protesters plan to converge outside the GOP debate at the Fox Theater in Detroit tonight to call attention to the Flint water crisis, economic and racial inequalities and Donald Trump’s hate-filled rhetoric.

Hundreds of demonstrators are expected to show up in what could be the largest protest outside of a GOP debate so far this year.

protest GOPOne of the protests, Shutdown in Midtown, is focused on the Flint water crisis and the appointment of emergency managers in Michigan. The demonstration begins at 6 p.m.

The debate, hosted by Fox News, is scheduled for 9 p.m.

The protests could cause a headache for people planning to attend the debate because of traffic snarls caused by the M-1 rail construction. Woodward is down to two lanes.

Over the past two years, people protesting emergency management and police brutality have shut down streets in Detroit.

Detroit, which is overwhelmingly Democratic, certainly is an odd choice for the GOP debate.
