The president of a demolition company that did work for the Detroit Land Bank has been charged today with falsifying bills to the city.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said ADR Consulting President Barry Ellentuck, 53, of West Bloomfield issued bogus billing statements to the Detroit Land Bank for asbestos inspections, asbestos abatement and other demolition services.

The Michigan Land Bank hired Ellentuck, who did work for the Detroit Land Bank.

The Detroit Land Bank spotted inaccuracies in the billing statements and asked ADR Consulting for an explanation. It’s alleged that Ellentuck pressured an employee to falsify documents to cover up the over-biling.

“As Detroit continues to rebound, it is imperative that we not allow anyone to stand in the way of the progress we are seeing,” Schuette said. “We cannot allow criminal behavior in the new Detroit.”

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Ellentuck, who was urged to turn himself in.

He is charged with one count of attempted false pretenses with the intent to defraud. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 2.5 years in prison.

Mayor Duggan’s handling of the Land Bank contracts, which have increased significantly in price, has prompted a state and federal investigation.

The Land Bank demolished about 7,000 vacant houses in the past two years.
