A Detroit fire engine responding to an emergency collided with an SUV on Woodward in Midtown early this afternoon, injuring one person.

Engine 17, which is using a replacement rig, was headed south on Woodward when it crashed into the SUV at an intersection at East Forest.

The driver of the SUV was injured and taken to the hospital a few blocks away. The extent of his injuries weren’t immediately clear, but they weren’t life-threatening, according to fire officials at the scene.

No firefighters were injured.

A rescue squad was called to the scene to extricate the man, but he was pulled out of the passenger-side door by emergency personnel.

Authorities are trying to determine who was at fault.
