A verbal argument inside a cigar bar in downtown Detroit early Saturday morning ended in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man.

Police said the victim and his 23-year-old friend were leaving 1701 Executive Cigar Bar on Cadillac Square at 1:55 a.m. after the argument when five men followed them to a parking lot.

“As the victim and his friend were getting into their vehicle, one of the suspects began firing shots at the victim, striking the victim in the head,” Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody told me. “At the time, the suspects fled from the scene in an unknown vehicle.”

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspects remain on the loose.

The cigar bar has a reputation for having an unruly audience, requiring pat-downs at the door.

No one was at the bar Saturday evening for comment. But neighbors said the bar has attracted trouble for years.
