Update: Police initially reported three people were killed and eight shot.

At least five people were shot and two killed in a shooting and related car crash following a vigil on Detroit’s west side early Friday morning.

The violence continued hours later after fights broke out at Sinai-Grace Hospital and Detroit Receiving Hospital, where the victims were taken. Several people were arrested following the fights.

Police said the shooting began shortly after 1:50 a.m. at the 1400 block of Patton following a vigil for a man who had died earlier this week in a shooting. Some of the victims fled in a car that crashed a few blocks away on the 9300 block of Burt Road. The driver was ejected and killed, police said.

The shooting killed at least one person.

Two suspects were arrested near the shooting scene, police said.

Neighbors reported hearing a fight followed by several minutes of gunfire.
