2 men rob armored truck near Cass Tech High School; 1 still on run

Two men are accused of robbing an armored truck near Cass Tech High School on Monday morning, and at least one of the suspects was captured within 20 minutes.

Firefighters alerted authorities to the robbery at Second Avenue and I-75 at 9 a.m.

About 20 minutes later, Wayne State University police captured one of the suspects at Fourth and Grand River.

The other suspect, who was described as black and wearing black and white, was still on the loose at 9:45 a.m. and was last seen running north on Cass Avenue.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether anyone was injured in the robbery.

Firefighters were called to Cass Tech twice Sunday night after someone set fire to the school’s trash compactor.

The area around Cass Tech is slated for development as part of the Red Wings arena and entertainment district, but crime continues to be a serious problem.
