DTE Energy worker assaulted for trying to turn off power to Detroit home

Detroit Police

A Detroit woman determined to keep her power from being shut off assaulted a DTE worker and then turned her dog on him this morning, police said.

The worker was trying to cut off the power to her house on the 10200 block of Greensboro at 10:20 a.m. when she allegedly tried to stop him. When she couldn’t, police said she turned her dog loose on the employee.

DTE spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said the employee was not injured.

Each year DTE shuts off power to tens of thousands of homes for nonpayment.

The energy provider offers a payment plan for lower-income people.
