Bicyclist shot in back while riding along Woodward near Palmer Park in Detroit

A Detroit man was critically injured early this morning after a gunman shot him in the back while he was riding his bike on a hardscrabble section of Woodward near Palmer Park.

Police said the bicyclist was strolling near the intersection of Woodward and Hollywood at 2:30 a.m. when a stranger in his 20s confronted the man and shot him in the back with a 9mm handgun.

The gunman fled while the bicyclist managed to call 911.

The suspect is described as a light-complected black man in his 20s, 5-foot-9, 140 pounds, with an unshaven face and medium-length hair.

It’s unclear why the bicyclist was in the area, which is notorious for prostitution, drugs and violence. The┬ásection of Woodward near Hollywood is bordered to the west by the Palmer Park Golf Course and four of the most desolate blocks in Detroit to the east.

How many people here blame the victim? Do you have the inside scoop on what really happened? Lets blame the people who get home invaded and their house burnt down by firebug too for living in Detroit at 2:30am in the morning. If anything happens to you at 2:30 am in Detroit its your fault for being there at 2:30 am.

      Absolutely true…. I’m never out at 2:30am……

This happened in the area that was once a thriving neighborhood known as the “Grix Farm”area of the COD.Grixdale,Hildale,Greendale,Goldengate,Hollywood,Robinwood,Brentwood.Now,along with the blight, there is a lot of criminal activity going on in this particular neighborhood and why someone would be out, riding a bicycle @ 2:30AM makes people wonder if there is more to the story than they are saying. This isn’t the greatest neighborhood to be riding around in that early in the morning!!

    • Fireweed Universe-City. It’s dangerous there. People are always up and down the strip, walks to the gas station on the corner, and the donuts. That and the fire-bug that’s torching the abandoned homes there…

Right now there the fear and division is very thick; it is immature, and locked in a developmental stasis. In ten, fifteen or twenty years there will most likely be a complete turn around as the M1 rolls through.

I am an avid cyclists and love riding around Metro Detroit. However, I wouldn’t do it at 230 am.

Did they have a confrontation before the shot? Or was he just passing by?

i suspect it will take a while for the cyclist to reveal the whole story.
