Detroit’s Grammy Award-winner Anita Baker wanted on arrest warrant

Anital baker thisGrammy Award-winning singer Anita Baker, who grew up in Detroit, is wanted on an arrest warrant stemming from a lawsuit over unpaid work on her Grosse Pointe home.

Baker, 56, failed to appear at a hearing in Wayne County Circuit Court in September, and on Wednesday a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.

Ray A. Smith Painting & Decorating Inc. alleges that Baker failed to pay for painting, plastering and carpentry work in 2009.

Baker, who hit mainstream success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with hits like “Sweet Love” and “Ain’t No Need to Worry,” owes more than $15,000 from a default judgment in 2011.

Baker was born in Toledo and moved to Detroit to live with foster parents after her mom abandoned her at the age of 2.
