Jan 21, 1968: Robert Earl Hayden Day celebrated

On this day in 1968, Mayor Jerome P. Cavanagh proclaims it “Robert Earl Hayden Day.”

It is a special tribute to the city native, renowned poet and current professor of English at Fisk University in Nashville.

Hayden is featured guest during the Second Baptist Church Cultural Committee’s 30th anniversary dinner held at the Statler Hotel downtown.

This is an interesting and worthwhile article. I have often enjoyed Robert Earl Hayden’s literary brilliance. He has well contributed to the history of great African American writers. It is wonderful to see him recognized here.
